Davulun Sesi Vol.2 Release Party

DavulunSesiVol2 by Neva Ozcu_1

In an effort to provide you better with content, I recently got a new camera. You should know that I’m a %170 beginner but I’ll hopefully be taking better photos in time…  Anyway, the first event I’ve been to since I got my new camera was the ‘Davulun Sesi Vol.2’ release party, which took place at Babylon & Babylon Lounge on February 8th. I was pleased with the footage I got at the party but when watched the videos next morning, I realised that the microphone of my camera is awful ! So, the audio quality of the videos is horrible even though I filtered it a lot.

When I first got inside Babylon, Sotu was onstage. He performed Hoodia from Davulun Sesi Vol.2 album ( free download here), Goldfish (my favourite one) as well as other tracks of his.  After SotuLevni took to the stage and performed Gam & sss which you can find in both Davulun Sesi Vol1 & Vol2 albums. Onra‘s performance was the last one I was able to record with the camera, so I used my phone to record the following performances and surprisingly, iphone microphone is much better than my cameras. After Onra‘s performance, Grup Ses Beats was on the stage with his mixed samples of dialogues from old Turkish movies & vinyls blended with hiphop beats. After 3am, Da Poet and Grup Ses Beats stated performing together. Kamufle was also on the stage pumping up the audience all night by accompanying the performers. Here are some photos from the performance night, I’ll post the videos very soon. Enjoy !

Davulun Sesi Vol.2 Presents: Onra

Davulun Sesi Vol.2 Presents Onra

Davulun Sesi‘ (Sound of Drums) is an album by TektosagRecords, a collaboration of many beatmakers and instrumental hiphop producers from Turkey such as Levni, Grup Ses Beats, Ventochild, Da Poet and many more… You can download the first release, ‘Davulun Sesi Vol.1‘ (Sound of Drums Vol.1) by clicking here.

Good news is that a second release, ‘Davulun Sesi Vol.2‘ (Sound of Drums Vol.2), is coming out on February 1st and Onra is the headline of the release party on February 8th, Friday. There will also be leading names from Europe and Istanbul such as Sotu the Traveller, Grup Ses Beats, Levni , Sine&Noise, Sami Baha, Kamufle, Gantz&Stiver, Da Poet performing. The event will take place in two different locations, Babylon and Babylon Lounge. And if you still haven’t got your tickets, you can get them here.

Arnaud Bernard, mostly known by his stage name Onra, is a beatmaker born in Germany to French parents and with Vietnamese roots. With Chinese and Vietnamese records he brought back from a trip to Vietnam, Onra made a ground-breaking album, ‘Chinoiseries’, that blends Chinese pop music influences with hiphop. There’s this thing about French producers: they are very successful at making dance, hiphop and electronic music and Onra is a very good example. He also released his later albums Long Distance and Chinoiseries Pt.2 and I’m crossing my fingers for him to play my favourite songs at the party.

I already got my tickets and am very excited! I will be sharing photos and maybe some videos from the party with you. Here’s a playlist of my favorite songs of the artists that will perform at the event. Listen and warm up for the party!

Toro y Moi’s in Istanbul Tonight !

1Toro y Moi, one of the best artists of the summer 2010 chillwave movement,  is having a concert tonight in Babylon Istanbul for the first time. I wish I could go to this concert tonight and share my views and performance photos with you, but unfortunately I can’t…

Instead, I will share a playlist of my favourite Toro y Moi songs which I’ve been listening to all day.

P.S: If you can make to the concert tonight, can you share you views and photos with me ? AND, if you don’t have tickets yet, you can get them here. Have fun :)

Red Hot Chili Peppers Istanbul Concert, 8 September 2012

After years spent trawling music websites, digital music magazines and music web communities I felt like I need to create my own space to share the stuff I discover everyday. With the feedback I get from you, I’ve started including short writings about the artists or my thoughts about the songs – which isn’t easy for me since I’m not very good at writing! Now here’s another step forward in which I’ll be sharing some personal stuff with you.

This is me at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Istanbul on September 8th 2012. You can see that I’m smiling like a cheshire cat. The reason is, I used to listen to RHCP a lot when I was in middle school and like the whole generation, I’ve been waiting for a RHCP concert here for ages! Finally, we attained our desire. Needless to say the concert was incredibly crowded: there were 42,000 Turkish fans! RHCP played many of their hit songs besides the songs from their new album “I’m With You” . As a very very big  fan of John Frusciante, I should admit that this concert would have blown my mind if he was still playing with the band, but still it was an amazing concert. I wish I was taller so that I could see the stage and take a couple of photos behind the thousands of other people.

Because I’ve started listening to RHCP albums when I was a middle school kid, the first album that I got was “Californication” which was released on June, 1999. I used to have a small Sony casette-player back then. Afterwards I tried catching up with their older albums such as “Blood Sugar Sex Magik“, “Mother’s Milk“, etc. but it will never change the fact that “Californication” has a special place in my heart.  Anyway, I thought it’d be a good idea to share my all-time favorite RHCP songs with you, enjoy !

1) “Under the Bridge” from their 1991 album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik

2) “Warped” from their 1995 album, One Hot Minute

3) “My Friends” from their 1995 album, One Hot Minute

4) “Around the World” from their 1999 album, Californication

5) “Dosed” from their 2002 album, By the Way

6) ”The Zeyphyr Song” from their 2002 album, By the Way

7)”Venice Queen” from their 2002 album, By the Way
