New Sycho Gast EP – Sunday Colours

Sycho Gast, one of the most prominent names of the musicislove movement – an independent hiphop and electronic music collective from Istanbul – has come up with a new EP, Sunday Colours. This four-track EP includes three Sycho Gast-signed remixes for both Heartsparxx and Soosh, and a total new track of his own. He transformed the original textures of the tracks to a whole new style.

Having started producing his own hip-hop instrumentals in 2007, Sycho Gast has recently released a full length, Changed Dimensions before his Sunday Colours EP. It seems that his works picked up the pace and if we’ve got a couple of moths of patience, he’ll be back contributing to a new compilation album with other producers from musicislove.

‘Tape One’ by Savai & Gokalp K is Out Now !

Savai Gokalp K. - Tape 1

Two beatmakers from Istanbul, Savai & Gokalp K. has teamed up for a new beat tape – ‘Tape One’ – released via Tektosag Records on Friday. The duo’s friendship dates back for years now and for all these years they’ve been listening to each others works.  A while ago,  they decided to join forces and create something different;  that’s how ‘Tape One was born. Even though Savai & Gokalp has different styles individually, their works integrate each other and the album is incredibly consistent. Each track has a hiphop basis which preserves the tempo throughout the album and drives you to listen it again and again. The album is free to download on Tektosag website.

Tektosag Records is an independent label based in Istanbul, focusing primarily on local Hip-Hop sounds, Turkish beatmakers and urban electronic music producers. It mainly frames local underground sounds from all over Turkey and is a rich knot to discover talents.

Bersarin Quartett

Bersarin Quartett

The other day, I was rambling through internetstuck between millions of tabs. Everytime I try to keep a list of the music that I find and WILL listen to, but because there are millions of websites that you can follow to keep yourself updated , it’s nearly impossible to make time and keep track of all of them.

Sometimes, you find an amazing song and it creates a domino effect that enables you to find great stuff afterwards. You can think of it as a dog, using its nose to sniff clues off the ground and get to the next point.  Anyway, this was the “key song” that I found the other day which enabled me to find lots of amazing songs afterwards. I’ll be sharing them with you v soon.

Bersarin Quartett is a one-man project  from Münster, Germany. Besides being an audio designer, Thomas Bücker – the creator of this project –  is also a graphic and media designer. I ran across his music last week and after listening a couple of songs, I immediately decided to buy all of his albums (you can do the same here). My favourite one is his second full length album, named ‘II‘. Here’s the song that struck me to write this post:

Ceiling Demons

A couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t having a good-music day (I guess you all know what I mean). Later on, I was contacted by a young hiphop trio who turned my luck. Ceiling Demons, an alternative hiphop trio rising from Leeds have released their debut EP on December 2012. Twin brothers Psy Ceiling & Dan Demon, and their very good friend Jesster have been making music together for a number of years. Dan & Psy say “It makes a huge difference when you personally are very close with the people you make music with. It creates a vibe that makes you flow together when making music. ”

An idea of making a tribute to a close friend who they lost, spurred them into this project. Their first release, ‘21st Birthday Blessings‘ is a gift from them to their lost friend which makes the song very personal and special. After writing, recording and mixing more songs, they got encouraged to get it out there by their friends as well as people whom they haven’t met before.

As a trio, each has a different source of inspiration. Dan & Psy write the lyrics and are the MCs while Jesster makes the beats and is in charge of the production. You can feel their excitement about creating their own music from their voice. They have a very large scale of musical inspiration which makes Ceiling Demons‘ music very rich.

Their self titled debut EP is a musical blend of darkness and light. My favourite tracks are ‘Legacies Left‘ and the opening track ‘Incarnadine‘, in which there are quotes from Marley and Lennon. According to Dan and Psy, Incarnadine is Jesster’s magic because he put the song together. This EP made a permanent transition into my iTunes and the good news is that, their new album is pretty much made, and I’m hoping to hear from them very soon. Here’s a playlist of The Ceiling Demons E.P , enjoy !

‘Hi Beams’ by Javelin is OUT TODAY !

Javelin-Hi Beams

Do you remember the post I made about Javelin‘s second full length-album? Well, THE TIME HAS COME FRIENDS ! Their highly anticipated second full length album ‘Hi Beams’ on Luaka Bop Records is out today. Pitchfork has already released a preview of the record and today is the last day of the album stream. I bought the album through iTunes and I must say that I’ve already favourited 2 songs, ‘l’Ocean’ and ‘Drummachines’… Because the songs evoke to them a sense of sky, night and warmth, Tom&George decided to name the album ‘Hi Beams’.

The cousins duo are now going to take a tour for their new album ‘Hi Beams’ and they want to reward their most engaged  fans. 5 fans will be chosen to win a pair of tickets to the Javelin show, read more  about the contest here.

James Pants + Vex Ruffin = Krista

Krista

After his high school prom night, multi-instrumentalist recording artist James Pants met Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf and after releasing several singles and compilations with ‘Stones Throw’, he dropped a debut album, Welcome in 2008. In the mood to start a cult, his second album Seven Seals was conceived when he was reading the ‘Book of Revelations’. In this album, he mixed sounds from early 80’s with an indefinable sense of humour. Currently, he’s living in Cologne where he works as a studio engineer.

Punk musician Vex Ruffin joined ‘Stones Throw’ family when PB Wolf liked the design of his demo cover and decided to check it out. Vex provides the drums and other sounds for his music with an SP 303 sampler which he purchased with an inspiration from Madlib. Here’s 10 random facts that you don’t know, but shold,  about the Beastmaster, Vex Ruffin.

These two artists joined their forces as Krista and released a two-track 45. Vocals & guitar by Vex, the rest by James Pants. My favourite part of this song is when Vex says “I know that you know that we know”. Hoping to hear more of their collaboration soon!

Bonobo – ‘The North Borders’ Out on April 1st 2013

Bonobo - The North Borders album Cover

In my very first year of university, I was walking along the corridors of the Faculty of Arts one evening, and there was music playing somewhere far away. It wasn’t unusual to hear music at night in the Faculty of Arts in my school because there were always art students burning the midnight oil.

The music got louder as I walked to find the origin of the sound. There was a room assigned to art students for displaying/exhibiting their works and I saw a black and white video reflected on the wall playing along with the music I was hearing. I waited till the end of the video just to learn whom the music belongs to. It was playing Bonobo’s Noctuary. That’s how I got familiar with his music.

It’s been almost three years since I filled my ears with Black Sandsand recently he clued us in with the first single Cirrus from his upcoming albumThe North Borders‘ which will be released in 52 DAYS. Here’s a playlist of “my all time favourite-Bonobo” songs including his new single Cirrus, enjoy !

Javelin releasing Hi Beams !

Javelin

The origins of Hip-hop and electro production duo Tom Van Buskirk & George Langford go back to the cousins’ childhoods, but today we know them as Javelin. AND, they are  coming out with a new release ‘Hi Beams‘ on March 5th !

Their first self-release ‘Jamz n Jemz‘ (2009), a cheap, computer-produced album, attracted people’s attention when the duo started to distribute it in gigs. The success of this self-release made them a member of Luaka Bop record label family. Before I knew about Javelin, I heard one of their tracks called ‘Lindsay Brohan‘ from a friend which led me to dig deeper into the duo. ‘Canyon Candy‘, a concept LP taking inspiration from their travels through the American South and West made me automatically imagine coyotes in the desert, cowboys, cactuses, and so on.

I must admit that I enjoyed their first self-release, ‘Jamz n Jemz‘ a lot even if it had a cheap production process :)  The new release, ‘Hi Beams‘ was recorded in a studio with proper machines, real microphones, and the first single “Nnormal” sounds very promising. By the way you can download  “Nnormal” by clicking here.

Here’s a my-favourite-Javelin-songs-playlist for you to prepare youselves for ‘Hi Beams’. Until March 5th, enjoy !

Davulun Sesi Vol.2 Presents Onra

Davulun Sesi‘ (Sound of Drums) is an album by TektosagRecords, a collaboration of many beatmakers and instrumental hiphop producers from Turkey such as Levni, Grup Ses Beats, Ventochild, Da Poet and many more… You can download the first release, ‘Davulun Sesi Vol.1‘ (Sound of Drums Vol.1) by clicking here.

Good news is that a second release, ‘Davulun Sesi Vol.2‘ (Sound of Drums Vol.2), is coming out on February 1st and Onra is the headline of the release party on February 8th, Friday. There will also be leading names from Europe and Istanbul such as Sotu the Traveller, Grup Ses Beats, Levni , Sine&Noise, Sami Baha, Kamufle, Gantz&Stiver, Da Poet performing. Arnaud Bernard, mostly known by his stage name Onra, is a beatmaker born in Germany to French parents and with Vietnamese roots. With Chinese and Vietnamese records he brought back from a trip to Vietnam, Onra made a ground-breaking album, ‘Chinoiseries’, that blends Chinese pop music influences with hiphop. There’s this thing about French producers: they are very successful at making dance, hiphop and electronic music and Onra is a very good example. He also released his later albums Long Distance and Chinoiseries Pt.2 and I’m crossing my fingers for him to play my favourite songs at the party.

I already got my tickets and am very excited! I will be sharing photos and maybe some videos from the party with you. Here’s a playlist of my favorite songs of the artists that will perform at the event. Listen and warm up for the party!
